Forgiveness Challenge Day 5: Forgiveness is not weak.

Forgiveness is not weak. It is not passive. It is not for the faint of heart.

It is a remarkable feat to be able to see past the inhumanity of someone’s behavior and recognize the humanity of the person committing the atrocity. This is not weakness. This is heroic strength, the noblest strength of the human spirit.

We all possess this strength.

I have absolutely NO expectation that any person I chose to forgive will apologize or change. It’s not about them. It’s about setting myself free of the mental abuse of thinking I can control others.

I admire and consider Michelle Knight a forgiving person.  Michelle Knight disappeared and was kidnapped by Ariel Castro on August 22, 2002. She was held captive until May 6, 2013.
