Radical Openness

How available are you to your learners? How interested are you in your students, especially those who are very different from you? How flexible are you? Do you usually think you already know how things are going to turn out? Are you willing to try something new in the courses you teach?

Openness involves active imagination, aesthetic sensitivity, attentiveness to inner feelings, preference for variety, and intellectual curiosity (wikipedia). Teach with the intention to keep your mind radically open to ideas and experiences without expecting predetermined outcomes. Create learning experiences where learners are receptive to new possibilities, without prejudging them.

Increase your ability to be radically open by practicing empathy and by making yourself available to out-of-the-ordinary opportunities. When you understand your learners ‘s feelings and ideas you become open to the unknown.
