Learning to practice compassion.

― Galileo Galilei famously stated “You cannot teach a man anything, you can only help him find it within himself.”  Over 400 years ago he built a telescope to prove the truth  the Earth is not the center of the universe. Yet many refused  to look through the telescope for fear of what they would see. He caused such a stir the pope summoned him to Rome, where an inquisition found him “vehemently suspect of heresy”and punished him with  house arrest for the rest of his life .

Today most of know we are not the center of the universe. Yet emotionally and behaviorally, we often act as if the universe somehow personally revolves around us.

How do we begin to develop a global compassionate perspective for a better future for all?  We can begin with extending  kindness to everyone in recognition that we are all equally important.

Please help us create a network of 100 Compassionate Cities by 2015– communities where  all — mayors & city councils, teachers & students, business people of all kinds, healthcare workers, sanitation engineers, cops & philosophers, poets & dreamers, bloggers & jet pilots & car mechanics & childcare specialists, moms & dads & kids of all shapes and sizes — are committed to bringing the principles of the Charter for Compassion to life. –
